The Cypriot teams won the most medals at the Robotex International
Once again, our Cypriot roboticists returned with global awards from the Robotex International Competition held in Tallinn, Estonia on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th, November, 2022.
The large Cypriot delegation of 200 people consisted of the winners of the corresponding Pancyprian competition, who travelled with their families to snowy Tallinn to represent their country in one of the most popular robotics competitions.
In particular, the students of Mr. Yiannis Laouris from the homonymous private institute in Paphos, won so many awards that in some ceremonies they literally did not let another flag be raised except for the Cypriot! Specifically, the Laouris teams won all 3 first places in two challenges: Lego Line Following and Lego SUMO (up to 13), 1st and 2nd place in Lego SUMO (14 and above), 1st and 3rd place in Lego Line Following (14 and Above) as well as many other distinctions and a special award!
It should be noted that the Laouris 5 team with the Secondary school students Christodoulos Gennaris, Giorgos Chrysostomou, Loukas Louka and Nikolas Pitta won most of the above awards and participated in other international robotics competitions.
Our flag was also raised on the stage of Robotex International by the student Michalis Gavriel from the Apoplous in Famagusta, who won 3rd place in the Aviation Academy Drone Race for Beginners challenge. Also, high school female students from Nicosia came back with distinctions in all- girls challenges. More specifically, the Angels team from the Archangelos public gymnasium won 4th place in Girls Fire Fighting (14 and Above) and the FireGirls team from the C.S. Stem Education Cyprus private institute won 8th place in Lego Girls Fire Fighting (14 and Above). It’s worth pointing out the achievements of the Robo Maniacs team from the Comwiz tutoring school in Famagusta, in the Folkrace (up to 16), and the teams of coach Giorgos Kyprianou, who represented the Polemi High School and the We Byte private institute in Paphos.
In addition to the competition, the Robotex International festival also includes the Roboleague presentation of robotic constructions by primary school students on the theme of Hero, where the following 12 groups of our Cypriot students participated:

All the students came back full of excitement from the beautiful experiences they gained from the event.
The international robotics festival was also attended by organizers of our national competition. During a parallel conference, Dr. Panicos Masouras, President of the Robotex Cyprus organizing committee and Secretary of the Board of the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) participated in a panel discussion together with the representatives of Robotex Turkey & South Korea where they discussed the prospects of the organization at a national and international level.
Taking the opportunity, Dr. Masouras invited the representatives of the other countries of the large family of ROBOTEX INTERNATIONAL to visit the next Robotex Cyprus that will take place next June and invited their teams to participate. CCS's vision related to the development of robotics competitions is to make Cyprus a popular destination for educational robotics events. In this context, CCS is planning the 1st Mediterranean Educational Robotics Competition in Cyprus in the summer of 2024.
Upon their return, the organizers are preparing for the next Robotex Cyprus in 2023 and invite individuals and organizations interested in contributing to this non-profit project, to contact CCS at 22460680 and robotex@ccs.org.cy
