Robotex MRC 2025: Robots playing chess and bowling, educational drones, and other STEAM activities at Cyprus’ largest educational robotics festival!

The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) invites you to Robotex MRC Cyprus 2025, the premier educational robotics festival in Cyprus! The event will take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June 2025, (9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m)., at the University of Cyprus Sports Centre.
On behalf of the President of the Republic, the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Nicodemos Damianou, will officially open the event. The event will be honored by the presence of Mr. Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist and Chairman of the Research and Innovation Foundation, which supports the event as a Diamond Sponsor, recognizing its importance in highlighting young talents in research and innovation in our country. Welcoming remarks will also be delivered by representatives of the co-organizers: the new Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK), Ms. Constantina Achilleos; the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus, Professor Eleni-Tatiana Synodinou; and Ms. Fotini Georgiou, member of of IET Cyprus and of the Scientific Committee of Robotex MRC Cyprus. Finally, traveling from Crete to attend the event will be Mr. Evangelos Stivaktakis, General Director of HERO (Hellenic Educational Robotics Organization), which organizes the MRC Global Olympiad (international competition).
More than 600 robotics enthusiasts—pupils, students, and adults from across Cyprus—will participate in over 20 different robotics challenges during the 8th Robotex Cyprus and the 2nd MRC Cyprus national competitions.
Primary school teams will present their robotic projects under the theme: "Robots and the World of Water", with the hope that some will propose innovative solutions to the highly relevant and pressing issue of water scarcity in Cyprus!
Competition Schedule
Saturday 28 June: Robots will compete in Line Following, Folkrace, Maze Solving, Archery, and Bowling challenges. Meanwhile, the Drone Competition will take place on the lower level, featuring an increased number of participants from both public and private schools.
Sunday 29 June: Robots will battle in the SUMO ring, race along a 15-meter rally track, and compete in the Shot Put event. The program also includes the Girls Firefighting challenge, exclusively for girls, aiming to attract more young women to the STEAM fields.
Unique Chess Challenge and more activities!
On Sunday, attendees will witness a one-of-a-kind chess challenge in Cyprus: Human vs Robot. In collaboration with KAISSA Chess Club, CCS brings to Cyprus for the first time the SenseRobot, which will challenge aspiring chess players, on the lower building level. Also on the same level, the Oceanography Center of the University of Cyprus and the CMMI teams will present interactive activities focused on marine science and technology!
On both event days, Robo.com.cy will showcase Kypruino, a unique, Cyprus-made Arduino Uno board. Children and adults alike will enjoy STEAM activities presented by CCS, the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), Makerspace Larnaka, and the organizations ECECT, Novatex, and O3, along with surprises and giveaways from sponsors ECOMMBX and Bank of Cyprus. Also visiting the event is Laika, the robotic dog of Neapolis University. The event will even feature a dance performance by the Elena Clark Dance School.
Representatives of the Cypriot startup ecosystem, researchers, scientists, investors, entrepreneurs, and serial entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to witness up close the robotic creations developed by the participating youth. These guests were invited by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), leveraging its strategic partnerships — particularly through the European programme Femme Forward Future Startup Founders — as well as through its newly established CCS – Women group.
Robotex MRC Cyprus is organized by the Cyprus Computer Society with co-organizers: University of Cyprus, the Youth Board of Cyprus, and IET Cyprus. The event is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, and is approved by the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth and ETEK.
This year’s event is powered by ECOMMBX, joining for the first time as "Powered by" sponsor, while CCS continues its valuable collaboration with Bank of Cyprus as "Youth Supporter", and XM as "Tech Partner". Neapolis University is the Gold Sponsor, Hellas SAT the Silver Sponsor, and Bronze Sponsors include Novatex Solutions Ltd, ZEBRA Consultants, NETinfo, Kardex, ICDL, with Robo.com.cy offering prizes.
The winning teams will represent Cyprus in the international MRC Finals (Crete) and Robotex International (Estonia) competitions, where Cypriot students have consistently won top awards in past years.Additionally, high school students may qualify for university scholarships thanks to the continued support of private higher education institutions including Neapolis, EUC, UNIC, Frederick, ICLan, UoL, and the newly established AUB (American University of Beirut). The event is brought to life through the collective efforts of a dedicated volunteer team.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Join us for an exciting weekend full of robotics competitions, interactive exhibits, games, raffles, and many more surprises.
